Scott and Sam resort to selling hot dogs to boost their budget and Kelly and Jeremy take a different route to the rest of the teams but a broken-down bus pushes them hours behind.

The presenter begins the last leg of her journey by facing up to her fear of flying – though before she even steps onto a plane, Sue has to survive a heart-racing air crash simulator. Then she takes off to see the mesmerising Kennicott Glacier, and parts of Alaska unreachable by road. Sue also visits the formerly abandoned ghost town of McCarthy.

The presenter follows the old gold trail route into the interior of America’s largest and wildest state, where she meets people who live in the wilderness. Violet plans a day at the seaside – her first key event since becoming mayor. Having returned to Poplar, Cyril is working with problem families in the area, arranging for some to attend a new playgroup at St Oswald’s church. He invites them, including heavily pregnant Lindy Webster, to the excursion. Despite the poor weather everyone has a good time, but the atmosphere quickly changes when Lindy goes into labour. Dr Turner and Shelagh are blindsided when May’s future with them is called into question, Nurse Crane helps a young couple cope with a rare cancer diagnosis, while Trixie finally passes her driving test.

Doubling Down. Series 2, episode 2. Part two of two. Power. Series 1, episode 3. The actions of millionaire Tory supporter David Hart, who worked behind the scenes to help Margaret Thatcher’s government defeat the prolonged strike by exploiting divisions between working and striking miners in the key county of Nottinghamshire. When – with Hart’s help – legal action was brought against the National Union of Mineworkers to freeze bank accounts, its chief executive Roger Windsor sought money from a controversial source – Libyan dictator Colonel Gaddafi. Then, in March 1985, beaten union leader Arthur Scargill announced the strike was over.

This episode tells the story of how Shirebrook descended into violence and division – a microcosm of what was happening in communities across the country.

The veteran naturalist investigates the discovery of a lifetime – the skull of a pliosaur, one of the most ferocious Jurassic predators ever known. This prehistoric marine reptile ruled the seas 150 million years ago, at the same time dinosaurs reigned on land. It measured up at an incredible 12 metres long and boasted phenomenal strength. David has been an avid fossil collector since he was a boy, but he has never come across a find quite like this. He follows two of the UK’s most intrepid fossil hunters on their perilous expedition to excavate the skull from its resting place 12 metres up in a cliff face.

After a new computer system called Horizon is installed across the country, mysterious financial losses start to appear in village post office tills. Alan, stubborn and computer-literate, refuses to put it behind him and is sure that one day he’ll find the evidence to prove them wrong. Bob Rutherford becomes convinced of the honesty of the subpostmasters as he starts work and finds evidence of faults in the IT systems, his report rattles Paula Vennells who approaches Alan to find a solution.

Jay Blades’ Story of the East End (Channel 5/HD | 9:00pm to 10:00pm | Tuesday 20th June 2023)

Jay concludes his exploration of the history of London’s East End, this time focusing on the 20th century and life in the East End during the Second World War. He meets with local historian Kate Thompson, who paints a picture of how areas such as Bethnal Green coped during the blitz, before 93-year-old Babs Clark tells him the story of how 173 people were crushed to death in what was one of the worst civilian tragedies of the war. Later, he meets former Krays firm member Chris Lambrianou at the notorious Blind Beggar pub to get an insider’s take on the infamous Kray twins, before making his way to Canary Wharf to see how parts of London have been completely transformed over the decades.
