In the run-up to Christmas 2021, with the UK in the grip of a crippling shortage of lorry drivers, a training school in Croydon is putting new recruits behind the wheel. This documentary follows them through five days of intensive coaching from veteran instructors at the National Driving Centre, before they take their test on Croydon’s roads – featuring notorious roundabouts and the dreaded reversing manoeuvre.

Chris Harris, Paddy McGuiness and Freddie Flintoff aren’t choosing their own cars, but instead choosing for one another. After unwrapping their presents in the Welsh village of Bethlehem, the trio set off on a yuletide trek across Britain, stopping off to play the game of `High-Speed Visual Charades” and deliver an enormous tree to the Unesco World Heritage city of Bath. Then it’s time for the presenters to visit the Top Gear test track, transformed into a winter wonderland of speed.

Archaeologist Ben Robinson visits Alnmouth, Northumberland, which was founded in the mid-12th century after the barons of nearby Alnwick obtained a charter from King John to build a new village. It had a market and a small port and the village flourished – so much so that by the mid-1700s, Alnmouth’s grain export started to play an integral role in feeding the growing English population.

Salt water and iron don’t mix and Southend Pier, built back in 1888, has seen better days. Now a team of specialists are working hard to prevent it falling into the sea.

The Scalextric team attempt to tap into the brand’s glory years, the 1980s, and devise a plan to create a model of a classic supercar, the Lamborghini Countach.

The presenter is on the West London stretch of the Thames, and here he discovers how night-shift workers contend with the river’s tides. Tony joins the fire service based at Lambeth, who deal with emergencies on the river, as they practice rescuing a body from the freezing waters in the pitch black.

Stonehenge is one of the world’s greatest mysteries. Now, a new discovery found deep in the soil of the surrounding area is threatening to upturn everything we think we know about this 4,500 year-old landmark. Rob Bell joins archaeologists, scientists and engineers who have uncovered a vast, previously undetected monument that is many times the size of the original henge.

Tony reveals how the Thames plays a vital role in keeping London – and beyond – on the move, and how it is a 24/7 operation – when the transport network is so busy during the day, it’s only at night that crucial maintenance and repairs can be done. The Rev Kate Bottley treks across the snow-dusted landscape of Wensleydale and Coverdale, setting off as the sun rises over the ruins of Jervaulx Abbey. She walks along the banks of the river Cover and into the dale of the same name, along the way reflecting on her faith and relationships, before ending her journey at Middleham Castle, the ruined fortress that was a childhood home of Richard III.

Broadcaster Nihal Arthanayake explores coast and countryside around the Cumbria and Lancashire border, and finds local characters, breathtaking views and moments of serenity along the way. Starting in the town of Arnside and looking out over the mudflats of Morecambe Bay, Nihal heads south with just his 360-degree camera for company. Along the way, he passes Arnside Tower and crosses the border into Lancashire. Views from the top of Arnside Knott and from hidden coves on the Silverdale coast showcase the beauty of this corner of the country, as he `declutters” his mind and reflects on the importance of solitude.

Comedian Rhod Gilbert dons his hard hat as guest presenter for this ambitious build in Brandesburton near Hull, East Yorkshire. The team are joined by local volunteers to transform an overgrown 2.5 acres into a purpose-built adventure campsite for the St Michael’s Youth Project (St Mike’s), which receives funding from Children in Need.

Having reached a dead end, Perez returns to the incident board in a fresh search for clues and soon finds that Carrie McAndrew, the chef on Eamon’s boat, was in debt to Niven Guthrie. Fiona Bedford also reveals that her husband is tracking her whereabouts, so must have known about her affair with Galbraith. Armed with this information, Perez delves deeper into Bedford’s movements on the day of Galbraith’s death. Meanwhile, as Donna grows weaker she asks Duncan for one last favour, a request that leaves him horrified.

The documentary follows the route of the Hogwarts Express to Glenfinnan station, where a piece of railway history is up for sale. A Highlands helicopter ride reveals how climate change is threatening the line, and cameras follow efforts to restore a cherished steam locomotive to the Strathspey Railway.

Walking Britain’s Lost Railways (Channel 5/HD | 7:00pm to 8:00pm | Friday 19th November 2021)

Rob Bell explores the lost railways of Northern Ireland, starting in Belfast, where they helped to create a city and a world-renowned shipbuilding centre. Rob’s railway route takes him from the Irish Sea to the Atlantic coast, and, on a visit to Armagh, he learns of a campaign to restore the Belfast to Armagh route and visits the site of the Armagh railway disaster, which proved a watershed moment for railway safety.

Susan Calman’s Grand Day Out (Channel 5/HD | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Friday 19th November 2021)

The presenter explores Kent, and investigates the curiously named Leeds Castle. She also takes a look round Chatham and its historic dockyard, which, as it turns out, is home to not only the world’s only working Victorian Ropery, but also Britain’s only female master rope maker. Susan concludes her trip at one of the most iconic and recognisable views of Britain – the White Cliffs of Dover.

Stacey Dooley hosts this property-based guessing game in which four people claim to own the same house. It’s then up to celebrity judges Bill Bailey, Emily Atack, Judi Love, Jamali Maddix – joined each week by a special guest – to watch the four `owners” interact and figure out which one is telling the truth and who are the impostors. Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen joins in the fun for the first edition, set in a converted barn in Ashford, Kent.

The Dog House (Channel 4/HD | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Thursday 25th March 2021)

Documentary set inside Wood Green animal charity, following efforts to match dogs with new owners. Nine-year-old Rohan meets Patterdale terrier puppy Friday, but there are concerns that the hound may be just a bit too enthusiastic for the youngster. Rocco the Jack Russell has been struggling to find a home, though his bouncy exuberance and love of a good face lick means he could be the perfect match for Zach, who is looking for a dog not fazed by his Tourette’s. Grant the stray westie has seen some tough times, but his luck might be about to change with the arrival of Casper and Sid.

Kate Humble’s Coastal Walks (Channel 5/HD | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Friday 26th March 2021)

The naturalist walks 12 miles of Suffolk’s shingle coast, starting at Minsmere Nature Reserve, and later heads through the protected wetlands at Snape Maltings in a kayak. Her final destination is the 10-mile-long shingle spit at Orford Ness, a former military test site which is now a National Trust nature reserve.

In April 2017 the professional racing driver was seriously injured in a collision that resulted in both of his legs being amputated. Already used to pushing the limits of what can be achieved, Billy now pushes himself to the limit as he takes on a truly unforgettable challenge – walking, kayaking and cycling 140 miles in the name of charity. His trek begins at the Millennium Bridge in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, ultimately heading to Brands Hatch in Kent. Before he starts, the 21-year-old receives words of encouragement from Jose Mourinho, manager of his beloved Tottenham Hotspur, and along the route is joined by a host of celebrity supporters including Cheryl, Zoe Ball, Chris Ramsey, Dan Walker and Vick Hope.
