About gsvalentine

I am a 45-year-old guy, who lives in Melton Mowbray, in the East Midlands, England. I was born in Lancashire, England, during September 1979. Most people don’t believe me that I was born in England due to my strong Scottish accent. My star sign is Libra. I am 5’9” tall, 30″ waist, with blonde hair, which is sometimes short, sometimes long. I have light brown eyes. Which most people think are very sexy. I just don’t see it, myself.

Adding GPS data to photos…

I have just found some very good software called free GeoSetter that lets you add GPS data to photos.  If you think what is the point of that, then check out www.gordon-valentine.com/zenphoto/me/2011/p3080169.jpg.html and you will see a google map under the photo, showing where it was taken. So far only done three photos, but over time I will do more and more… The first set, I will be doing is all the ones taken during the 2009 End2End cycle.

Longest cycle so far this year (40 miles)…

Well pleased with myself, just done my first 40 mile cycle of the year. I was aiming to do 40 miles on Sunday, but I paused my GPS to go into a shop, but forgot to restart it. So I was not fully sure how many miles I had done, so by the time I had added on the section, the GPS did not have the data for, I was short by just 1.11 miles.

So I had to make up for it…. Now my next goal is a 50 mile cycle before the month is out :).

Cycle statistics:-

  • Time: 3:05:12 (h:m:s).
  • Distance: 40.18 miles.
  • Calories: 1,802.
  • Avg Speed: 13.0 mph.
  • Max Speed: 29.3 mph.
  • Elevation Gain: 359 metres.
  • Min Elevation: 44 metres.
  • Max Elevation: 165 metres.

Did my weekly shopping using me bike :)

I did my weekly shopping using just my bike today. Which may not sound very good at all, but when you take into account, it’s a 14.88 mile round trip. With a good number of hills in between my village and Stamford. Getting there is nice and easy since I had no extra weight on my bike to worry about. On the way back I did notice it just a wee bit. Bt after doing the end2end cycle the weight was nothing at all. I had at least 3 times that when doing that cycle. I used my Arkel XM45 Extreme Mountain Touring Panniers that I got for doing the end2nd cycle. Going by google I saved around £2.78, which is not bad at all. So well pleased with that. It would will soon add up.

Here all the statistics for the cycle:-

  • Time: 1:06:18 (h:m:s).
  • Distance: 14.88 miles.
  • Avg Speed: 13.5 mph.
  • Max Speed: 28.4 mph.
  • Elevation Gain: 122 metres.
  • Elevation Loss: 123 metres.
  • Min Elevation: 27 metres.
  • Max Elevation: 57 metres.

How do I set-up my own avatar?

What my avatar looks like

I often get asked how do I setup my own avatar. If you have no idea what an avatar is. It’s the image that goes next to your comment when you post a comment on this website. It’s easy to do just point your web browser to www.gravatar.com.

Going to try only to cycle everywhere in June

I have just set myself a new goal for this year and that is not 2 use my car once in the whole of June. Going to try to cycle everywhere, right now it costs around £40 every two weeks on fuel, just getting to and from work and doing my weekly shopping. So in other words around £100 every month on fuel. That’s with the fuel prices at the “low” 131.9p they are at now. By June I bet it will be around 140.9p is not higher.

Do you think I can do it?? Comment below….

Sorry about the website downtime

Sorry about the website down time, was off-line for around12 hours. Some how the domain servers changed themselves. They changed from the 34sp.com ones to servers that I get the domain name from. No idea how it happened. Waiting for a email back from Freeparking, to say how it happened. But at the same time want to thank them for fixing it so fast, once I had worked out, what happened in the first place.

February 2011 cycling statistics

Yes I know that February is still not over, but the weather is so bad today, it may as well be :(.

I was hoping to do more miles than I did. But the weather and some other things going on in my personal life, put a stop to that. But I am still sure I will get to the planned 1,000 mile mark by April 🙂

Fixed some photo gallery bugs

If like myself you like to get most of your website updates via twitter or RSS feeds then you will be happy :). At long last I have got the RSS comments feed working again. It stopped working when I upgraded to a new version of zenphoto. Which is the CMS (content management system), gallery system I use on this website. So now it’s been working when anyone posts a comment on a photo, it will automatically get posted to my twitter feed.

The RSS feed for the photo comments is: www.gordon-valentine.com/zenphoto/index.php?rss-comments&type=gallery&lang=en_US.

My twitter feed is twitter.com/gsvalentine which you should all know by now 🙂

Best webcam images back on-line :)

That’s me just copied all of the “best webcam images” over from the old website. I have just changed how many pages they are, it’s gone from 25 down to 7. Still got the same number of images. Each page now has 24 images instead of the 6 that they had before.

Can’t really think of anything else say, other than my friend is doing well and should be out of hospital later this week.
