My 17 year bike, just had only it’s second full service

Believe it or not. The bike that I have had for 17 years has just had, what I believe is only it’s second ever full service. It only cost £92.99, which I am very happy with indeed. Feels so nice having a fully working bike again. It’s even got fully working back and back breaks for the first time in god knows how long! Big thanks to Terry Wright Cycles for keeping it on the road. So who knows, maybe for another 17 years :).

I give it a quick test cycle tonight. I did a whole 12.1 miles on it. Which is also the first cycle, I have done since Wednesday 23rd October, which is a long time ago for me.

First cycle after getting bike serviced

Happy days, that’s me got my bike after it went to Terry Wright Cycles last Thursday (8th March 2012) for a much needed service. It’s so nice having fully working front and back breaks again. I just need to watch, since for the last 3 months or so, only the front one was doing anything at all. If I used them now, I would be straight over the handlebars which would not be a good thing. They also renewed the gears, which had been jumping like mad. The service came to total of £111.98.

I will now leave you with statistics from today’s short bike ride.

Route statistics:-

  • Distance: 20.71 miles.
  • Time: 1:36:13 (h:m:s).
  • Avg Speed: 12.9 mph.
  • Max Speed: 30.6 mph.
  • Elevation Gain: 245 meters.

Data from: Garmin Connect.

Bike gone in for a service

At long last my bike has gone to Terry Wright Cycles for a much needed service. Turns out he’s not had a service since Monday – 20th December 2010. Just really hope it’s does not cost anywhere near as much, as last time. when it set me back £277.69. I am hoping more around to £100 to £150 this time. It will be great to have fully working breaks and gears again. It had gotten to the stage where my back break did not work at all. And my front break was getting ready to also give up :(.

Oh and in other news, at long last I have sent off my passport application form. Since I am going to my big brothers wedding in Cyprus during September.

Monday – 20th December 2010

Got my bike back at long, last! The service/rebuild come to a total of £277.69. A lot more than I was planning, but at least I have him back now. So that’s the main thing. Can’t wait till tomorrow to take him, out for a spin. Was hoping go out a spin today, which it’s been so cold, not gone above -6C all day. So really hope that Terry Wright Cycles have done a good done in fixing him. Now only got 17.9 miles till I hit the 4,000 mile mark. Only got two miles till I go to Scotland. Would be well pissed off, if I missed 4,000 by just 17.9 miles.

Tuesday – 14th December 2010

At long last taken my bike to the local bike shop for a much needed service. It’s at least going to need the break break fixing, new back wheel and tire. Also half of the gears don’t work. I can see it costing between £100 to £150 to get it all fixed. Saying that, that’s not too bad, since it’s never had a service in the whole time I’ve had it. Must have done at least 7,000 miles since getting it. Just hope that Terry Wright Cycles do a good job of fixing it. Can’t wait to get it back. Since I now have less than 20 miles to go, then I will have done 4,000 miles this year 🙂
