The story of Queen Elizabeth II in her own words, featuring never-before-seen home movie footage from her childhood up to her 1953 Coronation at the age of 27. It features a clip marking the first extended visit of Prince Philip to Balmoral in 1946, while the couple’s engagement was still not public and depicts Princess Elizabeth as a young mother with Prince Charles and Princess Anne spending time with their grandparents, the King and Queen.

Part three of six. When a woman confesses to murdering her husband, the team must determine if all is as it seems. Meanwhile, Simone is shocked to be reunited with a detective from her childhood and struggles to untangle her past.

Nick Knowles and the team venture to Northumberland to finish a build they started just before the pandemic, helping a couple whose 18-year-old daughter has complex medical and mental health issues. Nick and designer Gabrielle Blackman put out the call to local trades and volunteers, who turn up en masse and completely redesign the house, add an extension and create a home that works for everyone.

Part four of six. A secret from his father propels Jack to Belfast on an urgent mission, while Simone and Nikki investigate a burned body, which seems to hold puzzles of its own. As familial secrets come to the surface, Jack faces tragedy head-on.

Platinum Beacons: Lighting up the Jubilee (BBC 1/HD | 8:00pm to 10:00pm | Thursday 2nd June 2022)

Around the country communities come together to light more than 1,500 beacons to celebrate the Queen’s 70-year reign, with a principal beacon lit at Buckingham Palace. A trip through the Peak District at full steam, pulled by the Royal Scot, one of the finest locomotives ever built. On the way from Crewe to York, the train travels over Chat Moss on a line built by Robert Stephenson, which once served the famous Rocket. Bill Nighy narrates.

World’s Most Amazing Tractors (Channel 5/HD | 9:00pm to 10:00pm | Friday 3rd June 2022)

A look at the tractors designed for snow, and for steam and those designed to save lives. In Burnham-on-Sea, cameras focus on the RNLI’s Talus M8, which has been designed so it can head into the sea – even when the waves are lashing hard – and launch its lifeboats. Meanwhile, in Minnesota, viewers meet Kory, who has brought back to life a legend from the steam age, the Case 150.

Gay rights activists gather in London for a pride march in 1984, and decide they have a common cause with the miners’ strike. When their fundraising activities are rejected by the miners’ union, they travel to a Welsh pit village to show their support in person. Fact-based drama, starring Ben Schnetzer, Bill Nighy, Andrew Scott and Imelda Staunton.

The Eurovision Song Contest (BBC 1/HD | 8:00pm to 12:00am | Saturday 14th May 2022) ** PICK OF THE WEEK **

Coverage of the 66th staging of the annual song competition, hosted by Italian TV and radio presenter Alessandro Cattelan and singers Laura Pausini and Mika from PalaOlimpico in Turin, following Italy’s victory in last year’s event with Zitti e buoni by Måneskin. The United Kingdom is represented this year by singer and social media personality Sam Ryder, who will be performing Space Man, which he co-wrote with Grammy-winner Amy Wadge and Max Wolfgang during the pandemic. The current favourite to win are Ukraine’s entry Kalush Orchestra with their song Stefania, who have been granted special permission to leave the country to perform gigs in Tel Aviv and Amsterdam ahead of the main event. Graham Norton will once again commentate and bring his distinctive charm to the spectacular event.

The Airport: Back in the Skies (BBC 1/HD | 8:30pm to 9:00pm | Monday 16th May 2022)

In early November, Heathrow’s most lucrative US routes are opening up to double-vaxxed passengers. Two aircraft prepare for a historic dual take-off. Hayley, a senior airfield officer, is back from furlough and resolving gridlock on the taxiway as two planes come face to face. Footfall is growing but lost revenue from the closure of shops and restaurants poses a serious risk to Heathrow’s survival. Jeremy Spake meets an entrepreneur who is setting up a new restaurant in Terminal 2.

The team are in Corby, Northamptonshire, to complete a build for Jackie and Colin Hutchison and their three children. As ever, Nick Knowles and the team, plus hundreds of local workers, arrive to change this family’s life in just a few short days.

Nick Knowles meets Kettering mum of four Lindsey, who married her ex-Royal Engineer husband Shaun in December 2019, after which they began to extend their Kettering home. But help is on hand as the DIY SOS team, along with hundreds of local trades and several of Shaun’s old army buddies, step in to finish the job.

Will Young: Alcohol and My Brother Rupert (Channel 4/HD | 10:05pm to 11:10pm | Tuesday 10th May 2022)

Will Young lost his brother in July 2020 after a 20-year struggle with alcoholism. In this candid documentary, the singer talks about the pain of coping with a loved one’s addiction and sets out to understand the impact alcoholism can have on families. Among those he meets are a podcaster and campaigner who has battled her own issues with alcohol and an expert who works on the front line of addiction treatment.

Kevin McCloud follows the progress of Army couple Leah and Craig, whose lives have been dictated by the military. They have designed a contemporary, timber-clad kit house where they can escape from the beige of the barracks. Comedian Rhod Gilbert dons his hard hat as guest presenter for this ambitious build in Brandesburton near Hull, East Yorkshire. The team are joined by local volunteers to transform an overgrown 2.5 acres into a purpose-built adventure campsite for the St Michael’s Youth Project (St Mike’s), which receives funding from Children in Need.

Having reached a dead end, Perez returns to the incident board in a fresh search for clues and soon finds that Carrie McAndrew, the chef on Eamon’s boat, was in debt to Niven Guthrie. Fiona Bedford also reveals that her husband is tracking her whereabouts, so must have known about her affair with Galbraith. Armed with this information, Perez delves deeper into Bedford’s movements on the day of Galbraith’s death. Meanwhile, as Donna grows weaker she asks Duncan for one last favour, a request that leaves him horrified.

The documentary follows the route of the Hogwarts Express to Glenfinnan station, where a piece of railway history is up for sale. A Highlands helicopter ride reveals how climate change is threatening the line, and cameras follow efforts to restore a cherished steam locomotive to the Strathspey Railway.

Proud pet owners and their hopeful hounds compete for the coveted Golden Bone trophy. Along with their proud humans, each week three pooches will be tested on a number of challenges before a panel of judges – dog-lover Kaye Adams, animal behaviourist River McDonald and SSPCA veteran, and dog trainer, Alan Grant.

Walking Britain’s Lost Railways (Channel 5/HD | 7:00pm to 8:00pm | Friday 19th November 2021)

Rob Bell explores the lost railways of Northern Ireland, starting in Belfast, where they helped to create a city and a world-renowned shipbuilding centre. Rob’s railway route takes him from the Irish Sea to the Atlantic coast, and, on a visit to Armagh, he learns of a campaign to restore the Belfast to Armagh route and visits the site of the Armagh railway disaster, which proved a watershed moment for railway safety.

Susan Calman’s Grand Day Out (Channel 5/HD | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Friday 19th November 2021)

The presenter explores Kent, and investigates the curiously named Leeds Castle. She also takes a look round Chatham and its historic dockyard, which, as it turns out, is home to not only the world’s only working Victorian Ropery, but also Britain’s only female master rope maker. Susan concludes her trip at one of the most iconic and recognisable views of Britain – the White Cliffs of Dover.

On a 15-mile walk in North Yorkshire, Kate sets off from the picturesque settlement of Robin Hood’s Bay, where archaeologist Maria explains how, in the 18th century, the fishing village’s position made it an idea drop-off point for contraband shipped from Holland and France. From here, Kate heads south along the coast, meeting up with geologist Will, who reveals what dinosaur footprints can reveal about the creatures that once roamed the area. After arriving at her destination in Scarborough, Kate dons her wetsuit to join a group of swimmers braving the North Sea.

Kate Humble’s Coastal Walks (Channel 5/HD | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Friday 19th February 2021)

The naturalist enjoys an 11-mile walk in Exmoor along the South West Coast Path, regarded as one of the most beautiful such paths in the world. Starting at Porlock Weir, Kate heads to St Bueno’s, a tiny parish church that seats just 33 worshippers – and which holds a dark past. She then heads inland to see the valley that inspired RD Blackmore’s 1869 novel of outlaws and revenge, Lorna Doone. At Lynmouth, Kate rides the world’s highest and steepest water-powered railway, before finishing her walk seemingly on top of the world in the Valley of Rocks.

November 1991 finds the situation darkening. Jill and Roscoe work extra hours, while Ritchie clings to past success and even Carol finds a kinder side. Professor Alice Roberts visits Portsmouth to investigate the history of the Royal Navy, uncovering some uncomfortable truths behind the myth surrounding Lord Horatio Nelson and getting first-hand experience of what life would have been like in the heat of battle at Trafalgar. She also visits an archaeological dig on Burrow Island and a lantern show at the New Theatre Royal, and discovers the brutal punishments doled out for even minor offences by the Victorian penal system.

Paddington Station 24/7 (Channel 5/HD | 9:00pm to 10:00pm | Monday 23rd November 2020)

Staff at Bristol Temple Meads have their work cut out as they prepare for the station’s 180th birthday celebration, while Slough station is evacuated when a suspicious package is found underneath a stairwell. At Paddington, there is a commotion on Platform 12 as staff attempt to find the source of a fire alarm before the station’s automatic evacuation message is activated.

Saving Lives at Sea (BBC 2/HD | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Tuesday 24th November 2020)

Volunteers in Hastings rush to the aid of a surfer, who had sought to take advantage of the huge waves created by a storm at sea, but has now ended up going missing. On the north coast of Cornwall, the crew of St Agnes race to reach three people caught in a treacherous rip current that is pulling them out to sea, while in Scotland, the crew of Invergordon lifeboat is called out when two men are spotted clinging to an oil rig’s anchor chain.

After 15 years of fostering, Stephen and Lynn Smedley were looking forward to their well-earned retirement in Carbis Bay, Cornwall. However, the dream dramatically changed when their daughter died, leaving them caring for their three grandsons. The boys, still grieving for their mum’s untimely death, are forced to share a single bedroom with a triple bunkbed. There is only one bathroom and Lynn is forced to do the ironing in the shed due to lack of space. Enter Nick Knowles and the team. Their plan is to reconfigure and enlarge their home to accommodate three growing boys – with the help of hundreds of volunteers.

Saving Britain’s Pubs with Tom Kerridge (BBC 2/HD | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Thursday 26th November 2020)

Coronavirus is spreading and the British public are told to stay away from pubs. Tom and the landlords he has been supporting face a moral dilemma. Do they keep trying to trade or do they close their doors to fight the virus? However, on March 20 the decision is taken out of their hands when the Prime Minister tells all pubs to close until further notice. Tom started this journey to save four pubs from going under, now every pub in Britain, his own included, find themselves in a fight for survival.

Walking Britain’s Lost Railways (Channel 5/HD | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Friday 27th November 2020)

Rob Bell discovers the now-abandoned lines that unlocked the wild coastline of north Devon. He begins by following the dramatic Barnstaple and Ilfracombe Railway, which once built, proved an instant success, eventually carrying the glamorous Atlantic Coast Express service, direct from London Waterloo. He crosses to the Lynton and Barnstaple Railway, which traverses the wild terrain of Exmoor up to the cliff-top village of Lynton. Rob follows the adventurous, narrow-gauge route, discovering the extraordinary tale of the line’s construction and the very short section that has been fully restored.

Nick Knowles meets Scunthorpe woman Caroline Blanchard, a single mum who has twice had to make the decision to turn off the life support for people she loves. She and her children live in the shadow of the garage, where seven-year-old Natasha banged her head in 2007, and the conservatory, where husband and father Paul had a heart attack four years later. The volunteers plan is to give them a new home for a new start, including demolishing the conservatory and garage where these two tragedies occurred.

Tom visits the Black Bull in the village of Gartmore in Stirling. Struggling to survive, it was put on the market and 250 locals clubbed together to buy it. He also catches up with the staff of the pubs he is helping in Cornwall, south London and Stroud – but just when all the hard work seems to be paying off, the pandemic strikes. Now every pub in Britain faces a fight for survival.

At Callanish, Susan visits some awe-inspiring Neolithic giants – 49 standing stones, predating Stonehenge and steeped in mystery. Nearby, she learns the secret to jewellery making that captures the texture of these ancient standing stones.

Aerial archaeologist Ben Robinson uses the latest drone technology to look at the geographical features that shaped the city’s development.

Cornwall with Simon Reeve (BBC 1/HD | 8:10pm to 9:10pm | Saturday 7th November)

The first of two programmes in which Simon Reeve travels through Cornwall as the county emerges from lockdown, discovering the impact of Covid-19 on a part of the country highly reliant on tourism. Simon discovers the ongoing impact of the collapse of the tin-mining industry in the 1980s when he visits one of Britain’s poorest estates, and meets the entrepreneurs who sell homemade food on the beach who are struggling to make enough money to last the winter.

A passenger drops her overnight bag on the tracks and threatens to jump down to retrieve it, while a major power cut at Maidenhead has caused signalling to fail on all the tracks, including the main line into Paddington. At Great Western Railway’s Long Rock Depot, the famed Night Riviera sleeper service departs once more after a three-month suspension due to the pandemic, but with radical changes.

A look at the development of the London railway terminus from its opening in 1852 to the present, as it has been transformed it into one of the best connected places in Britain. In Victorian Britain, King’s Cross became a thriving industrial hub, bringing in goods to feed and power London, while 20 industrial buildings that once its beating heart have been given a new lease of life and is now a tech hub that is home to Google, Facebook and Youtube.

Ric wakes up from his coma to find the world in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic – and that the ongoing crisis threatens his chance of surviving his recent brain surgery. Sacha’s colleagues are concerned by how he is taking Essie’s death, but he turns his back on them in favour of a stranger, while Cameron struggles to prove that he can be a hero.

Saving Lives at Sea (BBC 2/HD | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Tuesday 10th November 2020)

The crew of a Weston-super-Mare lifeboat race to the aid of three casualties who have been caught by a rising tide and are exhausted from trying to swim against the current. On the northeast coast of England, volunteers come to the aid of a father and son trapped against a cliff face, while in Swanage, two lifeboats are launched to attend to a grounded yacht and a badly injured sailor.

Nick Knowles and the team descend on Caswell Bay, Swansea, to transform a dilapidated, out-of-use bus shelter into the first, fully adapted surf centre Surfability UK, a charity that provides surfing lessons and experiences for people with disabilities and learning difficulties, and which receives funding from Children in Need. Throughout, Nick presents stories of how children and young people have benefitted from the support of the charity, but the challenge remains tough as this is the team’s first build during Covid-19.

The comedian ventures off the mainland to the Isle of Bute for a privileged look at what is said to be Scotland’s first million-pound home – Mount Stuart House. In Argyll, Susan visits Kilmartin Glen, an ancient valley and home to the Scotti people who gave Scotland its name. She visits a Bronze Age tomb and learns how to make a copper axe in the way they were made thousands of years ago. Then, on the shores of Loch Fyne, she discovers the secrets of oyster cultivation before looking for beavers in the beautiful Knapdale Forest.

The home secretary’s principal protection officer David Budd struggles to come to terms with the fallout from the devastating events of the last 24 hours. Pushed to breaking point, David is helped back on his feet by his estranged wife, Vicky, and is determined to play an active role in the investigation, starting with those closest to Julia in government. At first Rayburn wants to keep David out of the enquiry, until he delivers a breakthrough.

He meets the archaeologists and drone pilots that have been flying all over the country to record this transient phenomenon. Once it rains, the marks disappear, but the hidden secrets have been revealed – now it’s a question of what happens next to these hidden historic gems.

Stone Age rock art leads him north to Loch Awe, where he drives a herd of Highland cows towards his final destination – the mountainous heights of Ben Cruachan.

In this two-part series, Nick Knowles and the DIY SOS team attempt their biggest and longest build yet – constructing two brand new buildings for the Grenfell community. The team attempt to build a two-storey flexible-use centre that can be used by the community however it decides. Research indicated that there wasn’t enough low-cost space that different community groups could use in the area, so with the help of generous construction companies, suppliers and volunteers, the DIY SOS team attempt to do what they can to help. The team are joined by the Duke of Cambridge, who meets local residents and talks to firefighters who were among the first responders on the night of the fire. Along the way, Nick meets different groups who could benefit from the building of a new community space.
