Happy days, I got out a cycle

Happy days, I got out a cycle for the first time, since getting to Scotland last Sunday. Till today, the weather has been to rain and windy most days. Also since the bike I use here is off the road right now. I had to wait for a new GPS holder to turn up, so I could fit my Garmin Edge 705 to my Dad’s bike.

It felt weird using my Dad’s bike. Since it does not have clip-less pedals or toe-clips. Like I am use to. I was hoping I could fit the toe-clips off my bike, onto my Dad’s bike, but they did not fit his bikes pedals. It was weird, it was like learning to ride a bike all over again. I could not work out where to put my feet at all.

So now on with the main event. The cycle it’s self. It was a great cycle. Went on roads I have not been on, since 2000. If not before and also covered roads, I have never cycled on before in my life. Plus lucky the rain stayed off. It was a bit on the cold side at times, then I did climb to 336 metres at one point.

I must say, I did really feel the hills today. In Scotland I can do 50 miles and not even feel it when I got home. I only did 26.34 miles. And my legs really did notice it. Then lots of that could be, riding a bike I am not use to at all.

So now here are some photos from the cycle, then will follow the map. And the cycling statistics, that I know make your day when I post them :).

Route map:-

Not the best map in the world. Makes the route look really boring when it’s anything but. If you have the time, I would look at the route using Google Street View.

Route statistics:-

  • Time: 2:19:51 (h:m:s)
  • Avg Speed: 11.3 mph

Taken live while out cycling

This is first for my website a update in the middle of a cycle. Should even show the location all going well.

Will post even more photos from the cycle when I get back home :).

Done 19,999.5 miles on the bike (since April 2003)

I can’t belive that I have done 19,999.5 miles on the bike, since April 2003. If I had knowing I was only half a mile away from the big 20,000 miles. I would have stayed out on the bike for just a bit longer.  The way I am going I will have beating last years record of 4,001.3 miles by the end of the month. Since I only have to do 561.6 miles before the month is out. Then I have till the end of the year to try to do 1,000 to get up to 5,000 which is my goal by the end of the year.

Oh I am sure you will have worked it out by now, I was doing more Geocaching while out in the bike. I found 6, so bringing my total finds up to 88. Hoping to get that to 100 before the week is out. So just hope that the weather stays nice. Glad that I did not lose anything while out, yesterday I went and lost a set of keys, never lost a set of keys in my life, till now.

I did have some bad luck wile out on the bike, I had not even done 5 miles. When I got a flat tyre but at the least it was the front for once, so did not take to long to fix.

Here are some photos from the cycle:-

Oh and before I go. Did you know this website is in the top 10 cycle blog rankings in the UK? Well it is, and if you don’t believe me check out kimbofo.typepad.com/londoncyclingdiary/2011/08/sneek-peek-of-augusts-cycle-blog-rankings.html. So that is one of the reasons I have been posting so much cycling stuff.

Another day, another cycle in a wetsuit

I wanted to make the most of the great British summer, so I went out another cycle in a wetsuit. Below are some photos I took while out on the bike. Hope that you all like them :).

Cycling in a wetsuit, yes again!

Yes for the second time this year, I have been out cycling in my wetsuit :). Think it’s also the longest cycle I have ever done in a wetsuit, I did 24.32 miles. So here are some photos from the cycle. A new vlog will be posted in the next number of days…

Just done a 65 mile bike ride

So pleased with myself, just done the longest cycle of the year, also one of the longest ones I have ever done. Would be the longest if you don’t count the End 2 End cycle, where I did 89 miles in one day. So now on with some of the statistics from the cycle.

  • Distance: 64.56 miles.
  • Time: 4:58:40 (h:m:s).
  • Avg Speed: 13.0 mph.
  • Max Speed: 28.7 mph.
  • Elevation Gain: 531 meters.
  • Elevation Loss: 533 meters
  • Min Elevation: 36 meters.
  • Max Elevation: 164 meters.

Here is a nice map of the full cycle. Which does really give you an idea of just how long 64 miles really is.

March 2011 cycling statistics

Here are my cycling statistics for March. I now this month is still not fully over, I was really hoping to get out on the bike again one last time this month. It’s just so windy, it’s not going to happen. The wind speed is up 30 mph. I don’t really feel like getting blowing off my bike. It’s really pissed me off, since I really wanted to do another 34 miles, then I would have done 700 miles this month.

Here is the data from March 2011:-

  • Total cycles: 29
  • Total Distance: 666 miles
  • Total Time: 50:07:28 (h:m:s)
  • Avg Speed: 12.9 mph
  • Max Time: 4:30:57 (h:m:s)
  • Max Speed: 33.9 mph
  • Avg Distance: 23.11 miles
  • Max Distance: 60.10 miles

Data from: Garmin Connect.
