#walk1000miles – 2018 Counties Challenge

So far during the #walk1000miles 2018 challenge, I’ve done a walk in the following counties and Crown dependences of the UK.

  • 41 – Lincolnshire
  • 44 – South Yorkshire
  • 45 – Lancashire

  • 79 – Glasgow
  • 82 – Argyll & Bute
  • 84 – Stirling & Falkirk
  • 96 – Inverness

So only done 14 out of 100 so far! Would be great, if I could at least double that up to 30 of them!

UK TV programmes to watch this week : 16/06/2018

Beyond the Clouds (Channel 5/HD | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Tuesday 19th June 2018)

Documentary series as Rob Bell explores the global phenomenon that is the skyscraper. Rob starts with a visit to the Burj Khalifa, the current world record holder in Dubai. What challenges must be overcome to anchor such giants to the ground? What effect do the elements have on design and construction? What is behind the race to build faster, higher and greater?

The Yorkshire Dales and the Lakes (more4 | 9:00pm to 10:00pm | Tuesday 19th June 2018)

The show that looks at life in the national parks of the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales returns for a new series. In the Lakes, champion sheep breeder Arnold Lancaster prepares his flock for the famous Westmorland County Show. In the Dales, the church bells at St Bartholomew’s remain silent after their belfry has fallen into disrepair. Locals arrange a fund raiser to get the bells ringing again. And dog trainer John Halstad prepares his dog Wren for a Dales trial.

Great Rail Restorations with Peter Snow (Channel 4 | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Wednesday 20th June 2018)

Luxury and glamour are at the heart of this episode, as the series jumps forward 100 years to 1960. The restoration project this time is a rusting and tired Pullman dining car, one of the very last batch to be made in Britain. The dedicated restoration team at Tyseley Engineering Works in Birmingham must transform both the dining car while getting the wreck of a kitchen back to working order. There’s heavy engineering to do, as well as meticulous attention to detail needed. Peter’s third driving lesson sees him grappling with reading signals, while still keeping the fire burning and the steam at the correct pressure. Henry Cole delves into the history of catering on the railways.

Building Britain’s Canals (Channel 5/HD | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Friday 22nd June 2018)

Writer and historian Dan Jones uncovers the unique stories behind three of Britain’s most iconic canals. Experimental for the time, this canal rises 500ft above sea level, scales the steep Pennines and turned Liverpool into the busiest port in the world.

WOW! That was a great 64.79 mile cycle!

WOW! That sure was a great 64.79 mile cycle! Making it by far the longest cycle of the year so far!

But one bad thing did happen during the cycle… That was finding a dead dog in the middle of the road! Which, I of course picked up and took over to the side of the road. Then called the police (on 101 – The police non-emergency number), to let them know! Still really, really unset about it! With being a dog loving, it did really get to me!

At least, I did the right thing, sure most people would just have cycled, drove or walked past. Not me!
