Little Bytham – Thorney – Whittlesey cycle

Had great fun cycling from Little Bytham, to Thorney, Whittlesey, Peterborough  then back home to Little Bytham. Around 30 miles of this route covered roads I had never cycled on before. I had driven on most of them before, but that’s not the same. Also had my first real look around Whittlesey. Which is where most of the dog track staff come from. I also found 11 more geocaches bring my total to 103. I could have found many, many more during the cycle. But I run of out day light. Did not get home till gone 10:30pm the way it was.

You can check out the route at connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/106873379

So now on with some of the statistics from the cycle.

After the cycle I went for a quick drink with Alex, Chris and Mark at the Willoughby Arms. When I say a drink, I mean a Pepsi. So over all it was a great day. Till my PC monitor died on me. But that’s story for another day.

So pleased with the amount of cycling I did last month. I did a record number of miles on the bike in once month, well that’s if you don’t count the End to End cycle month, back in August 2009.  So can’t believe it’s two years ago this month that I did it. I was really hoping to do it again this year, but people I was hoping to go with plugged out

60 mile bike ride and more Geocaching

Today I went a nice 60 mile bike ride. It was great weather again, so wanted to make the most of it. I also did more Geocaching, this time I found 6. So I am well pleased with myself. I was hoping to find 10, but I could not find one and ran out of time to find the other ones. I have now found 51 in total, with 19 of them since Sunday (24th July 2011). Aim is to get that over 100 before the year is out :).

So now on with some of the statistics from the cycle.

  • Distance: 60.24 miles.
  • Time: 4:31:37 (h:m:s).
  • Avg Speed: 13.3 mph.
  • Max Speed: 25.6 mph.
  • Elevation Gain: 485 meters.
  • Elevation Loss: 481 meters
  • Min Elevation: 11 meters.
  • Max Elevation: 164 meters.

I have also done the more miles I have ever done in a single month, well if you don’t count the End to End cycle  month back in August 2009. I have now done 704.7 miles, this month and for the whole year 3,194.9. So the second most miles I have ever done in a single year, only got last years to better.

Here are some photos from the cycle:-

53 mile bike ride while geocaching

Today I went a nice 53.22 mile bike ride. One the longest ones I have done in a number of weeks. Just to make the cycle even more fun, while cycle some geocaching at the same time. In case you have not idea what geocaching is. It’s a real-world outdoor treasure hunting game. Players try to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, using GPS-enabled devices and then share their experiences online. Yes I took that text straight off the website.

I was well pleased with myself I found 5 of the 6 geocaches, I set off out to find. The one I could not find, I forgot to print out the additional hints for it. I am sure I will find it the next time. Which all going well, will be tomorrow. When I am planning on looking for even more.

So now on with some of the statistics from the cycle.

  • Distance: 53.22 miles.
  • Time: 3:59:03 (h:m:s).
  • Avg Speed: 13.4 mph.
  • Max Speed: 25.3 mph.
  • Elevation Gain: 405 meters.
  • Elevation Loss: 398 meters
  • Min Elevation: 9 meters.
  • Max Elevation: 125 meters.

Oh and sorry they are no photos from this cycle. I forget to take my camera tripod with me :(.

Cycle miles now stands at 2,818.5

I have now done 2,818.5 miles on the bike so far this year. So it’s now the second most miles I have ever done in single year on the bike. I only have last years record 4,001.3 miles to bet. So I have to do 1,182.8 miles to bet that record. Which I am more than sure I can do. I had set myself a target for 5,000 miles so year. I can’t see myself getting that high now. But I will be more than happy if I get to 4,500 miles :).
