R.E.M. are no more

Some very, very sad news in the music world. That is after 31 years R.E.M. have broken up :(. I would say they are one of my all time favourite bands. I have now less then 13 of there albums and 4 of there DVDs.  I could at first not believe it, when I read it on the BBC news website. They have been around since 1980, so the year after I was born. So they have been a big part of much of my life. They will be very, very much missed.

Is you are are R.E.M. fan you may wait to check out Absolute Radio 90s this Sunday, since they are having a R.E.M. day.

In other news, I got my very first Birthday card today. So very, very big thanks to Mark! I can’t believe this time next week, I will be 32.

I will leave you with my all time favourite R.E.M. song. Which is Everybody Hurts.

Oh sorry just one more thing, I would love to hear what your favourite R.E.M. song is and why.

US military gay ban ends today

The ban on openly gay and lesbian US troops ends today (20th September 2011), after nearly two decades. The law, known as Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, allowed gays and lesbians to serve in the military if they kept their sexual orientation a secret.

I know this does not really have anything much, to do with me. Since I am not American or for that matter in the military. But I was reading a news article on the Pink News website. About a young airman that came out to his father via the telephone and broadcast a webcam recording of the event on YouTube.

You may not want to read the comments about the vlog on YouTube, since all the anti-gay people are posting lots of crap.

My new cycling shoes are here

First all of happy birthday to my older bother Douglas and my Dad. Hope you are both having great days, sorry I could not make it up to Scotland for them.

So now on with other news. My new cycling shoes, that I ordered from Fat Birds Don’t Fly, last Thursday I think it was. Have turned up :). Can’t really say to much about them to far, since I have still to take them out for a test ride. They fit, which of course is always a good start. In the photo to the left you can see the new ones at the back and old ones at the front.

Hoping that the wind drops off a bit later, so I can see what they are like on the bike.

That’s all for now folks :).

Shimano M077 Mountain Bike SPD shoes

I have just gone and ordered myself some new cycling shoes. Since my summer ones have had better days. But they have done me very, very well indeed had them since 17th December 2005 (click link to read about them). Used them while doing the End to End cycle, they have been around Rutland Water many times and I even used them while doing my record 100 mile cycle last week.

I just hope the new ones that I am getting last me, half as long. I am getting “Shimano M077 Mountain Bike SPD shoes” which I am sure you worked out from the title of this post :). I have ordered them from Fat Birds Don’t Fly. I love that name, what a great name for a bike shop. They have set me back £49.99, but full RRP is £69.99 so a saving of 30%.

I will let you know how I get on with them, when they turn up. Which I am hoping will be this week at some point.

First ever 100 mile bike ride

I am so pleased with myself, I did my first ever 100 mile bike ride today. It’s been one of my cycling goal’s since doing the End to End cycle back in August 2009. The only bad thing about it, was finding roads to get to 100 miles. If you have a close look at the map, you can see where I had to go, a mini cycle around Castle Bytham and my home village of Little Bytham to get the miles up.

So next time I plan a 100+ mile bike ride, I will need to sort out the route before I set off and may even go for 120 miles the next time :). But I ca’t see it happening this year, since it gets dark around 7:30pm now. So it will give me something to look forward to next year!

So now on with some of the statistics from the cycle.

  • Distance: 100.44 miles.
  • Time: 7:20:29 (h:m:s).
  • Avg Speed: 13.7 mph.
  • Max Speed: 26.5 mph.
  • Elevation Gain: 709 meters.

Data from: Garmin Connectconnect.garmin.com/modern/activity/114613864.

Below is the route I took while doing the 100.44 mile cycle.

In case you can’t really picture 100 miles in your head. It’s like cycle from Stamford to Cambridge and back again and still having around 10 miles to play with. Or cycling from Stamford to Sheffield and still having 12 miles to play with.

Oh and sorry I took no photos at all during the cycle. No idea why, on the longer cycles, I next to never stop to take any :(.

My most popular YouTube video

I can’t belive that my most popular YouTube video has had 81,815 views (as of 14/09/2011). Now if only I made a £1 for everyone that watched it.

In this video I put my sexy Spider-Man suit on, then put a lock on the zip :).

My blu-ray collection so far…

Below is a photo of my blu-ray collection. I know it’s not the biggest one in the world. It’s what you do with it that counts. Oh wait, sorry I am speaking about something else there. Right back to my blu-ray collection. I have only had a blu-ray player since Christmas 2010. So I think 15 of them is a very good start.

Most popular photo of the month so far

Below is the most popular photo of the month so far, with 264 views. I guess that everyone likes seeing me in my skin tight Adidas full body suit.

I am sure that most you of will know that the Tour of Britain is on this week. So I was just looking around on flickr to see what photos I could find. Found this photo of Theo Bos. Think it’s the best photo I have ever found of him. Let’s just say it made me very, very happy indeed :).
