September 2020 Cycling Climbing Challenge That’s me completed yet another Strava challenge! This time the “September 2020 Cycling Climbing Challenge”, when you have to, climb at least 7,500 meters over as many rides as you like.

UK TV programmes to watch this week : 26/09/2020

George Clarke’s National Trust Unlocked (Channel 4/HD | 9:00pm to 10:00pm | Sunday 27th September 2020)

The presenter heads to one of Britain’s grandest 17th-century powerhouses – the decadent Ham House – and learns about the remarkable matriarchs who put it on the map, before exploring the Thames-side formal gardens that surround it. Plus, George has a private tour at the modernist Hampstead home of one of his heroes – architect Erno Goldfinger, the man thought to have inspired James Bond’s nemesis.

Casualty (BBC 1/HD | 9:20pm to 10:10pm | Saturday 26th September 2020)

Hospital drama with the staff of Holby’s accident and emergency department as they deal with more sick and injured patients. Marty reconnects with his homophobic father, and Rash is forced to intervene as disaster strikes the ED and the team are thrown into chaos. Starring Shaheen Jafargholi and Neet Mohan.

All Creatures Great and Small (Channel 5/HD | 9:00pm to 10:00pm | Tuesday 29th September 2020)

James is appointed as attending vet at the Darrowby Show – but Siegfried and Tristan warn him that the job is a poisoned chalice and expect him to quit after the first day. Mrs Hall has more faith in him, however, and makes a wager with the Farnon brothers. James finds himself surrounded by pushy farmers offering bribes to help them cheat their way to victory and faces a dilemma when the Aldersons desperately need his help in securing the sale of their prize bull.

The Grand Party Hotel (BBC 1/HD | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Thursday 1st October 2020)

Checking into the Shankly this week is a party of 41 stags, who are being looked after by trainee guest relations manager James. But the morning before the lads arrive, he is nowhere to be found. Owner Lawrence challenges staff to set up a glamping festival on the roof in just one week, a loved-up couple need a last-minute bridal suite and a bride-to-be brings her friends to the hotel for her second hen party this year.

Secret Scotland (Channel 5/HD | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Friday 2nd October 2020)

The comedian explores the Kingdom of Fife and the East, starting at Falkland Palace – a former retreat of Scottish royalty. Once a hunting lodge to eight Stuart monarchs, it is the final resting place of King James V. Susan also visits Wemyss Caves, home to the largest collection of Pictish carvings in the world, and is invited into a little-known cave whose location must remain secret. Later, she is surprised to find a Japanese garden hidden deep in the countryside and gets the chance to bat for the world’s only beach cricket club on Elie beach.

At long, long last that’s me now done 3,000 miles of cycling so far this year! Also done my third half century cycle of the month and the fourth of the year!

UK TV programmes to watch this week : 19/09/2020

George Clarke’s National Trust Unlocked (Channel 4/HD | 9:00pm to 10:00pm | Sunday 20th September 2020)

In Devon, George visits one of the National Trust’s quirkiest buildings, a bear hut on the 6400-acre Killerton estate. The main house was given away because of the socialist ideals of the aristocratic family who lived there. George unearths secrets and scandal at Baddesley Clinton Hall, a fortified Tudor manor house in Warwickshire where in the past the architecture has meant the difference between life and death, then heads home to the north-east for a walk through Gibside Estate, a landscape park with royal connections and crowned with jaw-dropping architecture.

All Creatures Great and Small (Channel 5/HD | 9:00pm to 10:00pm | Tuesday 22nd September 2020)

Mrs Pumphrey is convinced her beloved Pekingese is dying. James discovers that she has not been keeping her pampered pet on the strict diet he prescribed, and is forced to take the dog in while it recovers from illness brought about by over indulgence. Tristan prepares to return to university, but needs Siegfried’s help to pay for his accommodation. However, his older brother is not prepared to part with a penny until he has proved he is serious about being a vet. James treats the Aldersons’ prize bull, and Helen rewards his efforts with some unusual home baking.

The Grand Party Hotel (BBC 1/HD | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Thursday 24th September 2020)

Behind the doors of the Shankly Hotel in Liverpool, which has themed party suites so guests can celebrate important moments in their lives. But with the hotel’s online rating having slipped, a new general manager has been called in to shake things up, although his changes do not go down well with the staff. Elsewhere, wedding planner Ciara helps brides-to-be Trudie and Danielle, while guest relations officer Liam looks after Laura, who has checked in to celebrate her recent divorce.

Saving Lives at Sea (BBC 2/HD | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Thursday 24th September 2020)

On the Wirral coast, the crew of Hoylake’s rescue hovercraft is called out to an unconventional casualty – a porpoise stranded by the outgoing tide. Two hundred miles to the north another unusual victim of the British tides, a teenage wedding guest in suit and tie, is plucked off a fast-disappearing rocky outcrop in the middle of the sea by the Kinghorn crew, while in Cornwall, the Penlee lifeboat crew receives a dreaded call – a fishing boat, skippered by a fisherman the crew all know, is in flames miles out at sea.

Secret Scotland (Channel 5/HD | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Friday 25th September 2020)

The presenter explores the beautiful Trossachs and west of Scotland, a place filled with dramatic scenery and abundant with iconic glens, impressive castles and rare wildlife. Susan begins at the fairy-tale Castle of Inveraray, where she goes behind the scenes with His Grace, the Duke of Argyll, head of Clan Campbell, to reveal some amazing secrets that may not be for the faint hearted. At the picture-perfect Loch Katrine, the comedian gets exclusive access at a world-class feat of Scottish engineering and in Inverawe, discovers the secrets to Scotland’s world-famous smoked salmon.
