he Wildest Ocean on Earth - 30/07/2015 (YouView app)Joanna Lumley’s Trans-Siberian Adventure (itv/HD | 9:00pm to 10:00pm | Sunday 26th July 2015)

The last leg of her 6,400-mile train journey from Hong Kong to Moscow finds Joanna is in deepest Siberia. First stop is Lake Baikal, one of the deepest lakes in the world. She drinks vodka with a local fisherman before getting back on the train for Krasnoyarsk to meet an oligarch. From there she travels across the vast emptiness of Siberia to Yekaterinburg, a city with a dark history. The last tsar and his family were murdered here in 1918. She finds Moscow a very different city to the one she knew in the 1960s. Visiting Stalin’s nuclear bunker, she meets some models before finding the spot where she was photographed in 1966 – her inspiration for the whole adventure.

The Pennine Way (BBC 2/HD | 7:30pm to 8:00pm | Monday 27th July 2015)

Explorer Paul Rose presents a four-part documentary on the Pennine Way, Britain’s first national trail, as it celebrates its 50th birthday. In this edition, he discovers how the route, which at 268 miles stretches from the Peak District in Derbyshire to the Scottish Borders, has changed in the last half century. He learns that the Pennine Way owes its existence to the right to roam movement in the 1930s, hears about ghostly sightings along the trail and meets actor and director Barrie Rutter to explore the literary roots of the south Pennines.

Documentary examining the winners and losers in Britain’s gambling revolution. Saturday is the biggest day of the week for bookmakers and the day for up to four million regular punters to try their luck against the industry’s experts – the traders. The second episode of this three-part series takes the viewer through the unfolding drama of one big race day at Doncaster from completely opposing points of view, as the battle between punter and bookie plays out. The traders set the odds that will attract the most punters. Trackside at Doncaster, independent bookmaker Keith Johnson tries to offer better odds than the high-street giants like Coral. And passionate race-goers like Andy and his girlfriend Gosia study every tiny detail of the horses and trainers before placing their bets.

Celebrating the Pennine Way’s 50th birthday. Paul Rose’s journey along the Pennine Way takes him to the Yorkshire Dales to the village of Malham, where the Pennine Way was launched fifty years ago. He hears from those who remember the opening ceremony, before having a go at the limestone cliff face of Malham Cove. He also visits the sheep mart in Wensleydale – and enjoys a pint in Britain’s highest pub.

Tessa Dunlop uncovers a story that could have come straight from the pages of a spy novel! How did one small yacht change the course of British and Irish history? Cassie Newland and Miranda Krestovnikoff join forces – on land and underwater – to investigate a shipwreck mystery to rival the Titanic’s. RMS Tayleur was heralded as the fastest, safest, most advanced vessel of her day, but the ship sank on her maiden voyage with horrific loss of life. And singer-songwriter Ruth Keggin tells the story of the Irish sea god Manannan – first ruler of the Isle of Man, who is now said to reside on an underwater island.

In the wild North Atlantic, massive whale pods, giant turtles and monstrous jellyfish ride the Gulf Stream – a huge ocean current that becomes a migration super-highway and helps warm northern Europe. Meanwhile, fishermen battle for survival in mountainous seas as they try to reap the current’s natural fertility.

Joanna spends time in the capital Ulan Bator, where she tracks down the amazing Mongolian throat singers before catching the train to Russia. She meets Mongolian tradesmen on the train and then experiences a spot of bother at the border before she enters Siberia.

Documentary examining the winners and losers in Britain’s gambling revolution. On Huddersfield High Street, there’s a turf war playing out. Eleven betting shops are crowded into the town centre, all competing for business. Tony runs one of the most established shops in town and has been asked to try to turn around the fortunes of another branch just up the road which has a reputation for disruptive and often violent customers and is failing to hit its profit targets. Novelty betting specialist Gary is working out the odds for the new series of Strictly Come Dancing, while the marketing team devise a scheme designed to entice people into opening online betting accounts. Self-confessed compulsive gambler Stuart trawls all the shops in Huddersfield, trying his luck on the fixed odds betting terminals.

Coast explores why we’re at our most ingenious on the edges of our isles. Nick Crane is following the Welsh Coastal Path around Anglesey and taking in 700 years of inspired thinking and ingenious isles. Tessa Dunlop crosses the channel to France to find out how a fishing village in Normandy gave rise to British commercial radio in the 1930s. Brendan Walker goes on top of, underneath and even inside the mighty Cleddau Bridge in Pembrokeshire to investigate why its collapse in the 1970s changed engineering for ever. Dick Strawbridge is on the trail of coastal camouflage in Portsmouth as he investigates ‘dazzle’. During the First World War, a military artist came up with a novel way to disguise our ships before the days of radar. He persuaded the authorities to try a revolutionary means of camouflage – painting ships in bright vivid shapes and patterns. Finally, we meet the fisherboys who reinvented themselves as peacocks in the 1960s with a splash of colour whenever they came ashore.

Having previously revealed the extent of vicious gay hate crime in Russia, Dispatches returns with an investigation into the global networks supporting a wave of anti-gay laws around the world. In a special one-hour programme, spanning four continents, Dispatches exposes the well-funded backlash against gay rights. One group, the World Congress of Families, is based in America, where same-sex marriages have recently been made legal in all 50 states. The WCF and their associates claim they are merely supporting pro-family laws in other countries but Dispatches reveals how, in doing so, they have supported anti-gay laws in Russia and lobbied the Slovakian government to help pass laws curtailing the rights of the gay community.

First in a three-part series which sees Joanna Lumley travel the 6,400 mile route from Hong Kong to Moscow. Joanna begins her train journey in Hong Kong – which she last visited when she was four – while she has not been to Moscow since 1966 when she was there as a model at the height of the Cold War. In the first episode, she sets off from The Peak above Victoria Harbour, before jumping on the Mass Transit Railway to Shenzhen where she catches the bullet train to Beijing. In China’s capital, she discovers that more Rolls Royces are sold there than anywhere else in the world. She visits a bizarre restaurant dedicated to Chairman Mao and encounters an old lady who knew Emperor Puyi’s favourite concubine. She then joins the Trans-Siberian, stopping off in Datong and visiting a wild stretch of the Great Wall. From there she travels by overnight train to Mongolia, where she passes through the Gobi desert and visits a local shaman.

Documentary following the officers of Britain’s biggest and busiest police service as they deal with life, death, crime and its victims, all across the capital. Over 50 per cent of new Met officers are from outside London, and Yorkshireman Tom Hebblethwaite has his work cut out finding his way around. During his training he must achieve some vital goals, from making an arrest to learning to march. The streets of London are a challenge for even the most experienced police constables, and response officers Caroline Hay and Karl Davies are old hands at dealing with the ups and downs of policing the public in Camden, north London. While putting up with verbal abuse from angry buskers is part of the job, it’s protecting some of society’s more vulnerable individuals that makes Caroline reflect on why she joined the service. In east London, Detective Jason Weald is nearing retirement and must call on his years of experience to get to the bottom of the tragic death of a four-month-old baby.

Dallas Campbell reveals a fascinating and secret world hidden below Britain. In this episode he explores how what goes on underground keeps our country on the move. He delves into the past to discover how a secret wartime pipeline is now delivering fuel to Heathrow Airport. Extraordinary computer graphics lay bare the underwater engineering genius that allowed the iconic Forth Rail Bridge to be built in the 19th century. Along the way Dallas meets some of the hidden army of workers that keep Britain running from underground, from the drivers of the largest tunnelling machines in the world to the engineers running a vast power station under a mountain in Wales. In one memorable scene, he helps dislodge a ‘fatberg’ that’s blocking one of London’s sewers. And he does some secret filming of badgers that are threatening the foundations of a primary school and helps to relocate the whole sett.

In the second film, Clarkson, Hammond and May try to become lifestyle leisure enthusiasts with the help of some incredibly cheap lifestyle leisure vehicles. Restricted to a maximum budget of £250, the trio buy three massive mileage SUVs – a Vauxhall Frontera, a Jeep Cherokee and a Mitsubishi Shogun – and then embark on a series of action-packed challenges that include battling with the Stig’s Leisure Activity Cousin and a race with terrifying consequences for the loser.

On an average night, the Met receives over 4,000 emergency calls. In the residential streets of north London, a burglar has been caught in the act. On the busy streets of Soho, Detective Superintendent Kevin Southworth has been gathering evidence on the thieves and drug dealers exploiting the area. With the help of 400 riot-trained officers he makes his move. After dark, London’s clubs and bars come alive, but as the punters spill out onto the streets, it’s up to the cops to deal with the ones who can’t hold their booze. And the long night can be a lonely time for those suffering from mental health issues. Constables Ian Gray and Christine Wratten rush to help two Londoners who are feeling suicidal.

Exploring the natural world, he abseils down an underground waterfall higher than Niagara. And beneath one of the nation’s oldest oak trees, he discovers a vast root system that’s wider and more intricate than its branches.

After a second devastating quake, Tom returns to Nepal to find the men who were with him on the mountain and to discover how the country is coping amid continuing aftershocks.

Detectives Stuart McNaughton and Bob Dolce work for Trident, the Met’s specialist gang unit. As increasingly younger boys and girls are being lured into the gang lifestyle, Bob and Stuart have focused on London’s most dangerous gang. Wealthy residents of Camden, north London, have been plagued by a wave of violent snatch-and-grab thefts by robbers using mopeds to evade police. Public confidence in the police is running low, and it’s up to borough commander Richard Tucker to win back trust and wipe out the problem. Police constables Tim Dawes and Steph Mills have been patrolling the streets of Brixton for over five years and deal with knife crime on an almost daily basis. But nothing can prepare them for the shock of a vicious knife attack in broad daylight. It’s up to them to try to save the life of an innocent teenage boy.

The Secret World of Lego follows Justin, a 23-year-old design student, as he travels to Lego headquarters in Denmark in pursuit of one of the most hotly contested jobs in the world, as a Lego set designer. The programme also meets Liverpudlian Matthew, who undertook the same process and has now risen to become a Vice President of Design; and Mark and Tom, two adult fans of Lego, as they try two different money-making schemes they hope will transform their love of the brick into cash. And there’s Roar, the Lego ‘reputation manager’, who guides viewers through this secret world, until the programme gets a little too close for comfort.

One in four British homes has a dog. But our 21st-century world can be baffling for man’s best friend. Mark Evans and his team take on the cases of dogs struggling with the modern world, tackling some of the most outrageous, challenging and shocking examples of dog behaviour. In this episode specially shot surveillance footage shows how battling Alsatian sisters Tasha and Kes have forced their owners to partition their home and lead separate lives. Meanwhile, tiny Chihuahua Marley is a big nuisance as he marks his territory throughout his house, leaving a smelly trail and destroying furniture. Mark sets out to help these dogs, other dogs and all their owners enjoy happier, healthier lives. The team also investigate whether dogs can feel jealous or guilty, and trainer Tamsin Durston shows how to stop dogs jumping up.

Britain’s Busiest Airport – Heathrow (itv/HD | 9:00pm to 10:00pm | Thursday 18th June 2015)

Documentary series going behind the scenes at Britain’s biggest and busiest international airport – London Heathrow. The final episode focuses on Departures and the process of getting 100,000 passengers on board their flights on time every day. Dispatcher Callie and ramp manager Steve have a problem when a passenger disappears after checking in. In security, Sundeep and his team have to search an unusually dressed traveller and deal with a man who is unhappy about having his bag searched. Photographer Kate – one of the paparazzi – is on the lookout for celebrities. Meanwhile, Heathrow’s extradition team ensure that police suspects are put on departing flights.

Now an inquiry is about to decide if the killing was lawful, and Scotland Yard is anxious about renewed racial tension and more riots in London.

Michael Smiley takes a bike tour of Northern Ireland, meeting other cycling enthusiasts en route and recalling stories from his past. In this edition, Michael meets comedian Kevin McAleer, tours the Beaghmore Stone Circles near Cookstown and goes to Strabane to take part in the Cycle Against Suicide ride to Derry with Jim Breen. His odyssey concludes with a cycle up the steep Mamore Gap in the company of 74-year-old Willie-John McLaughlin.

This episode reveals how cleaners, ground staff and flight crew turn around hundreds of incoming planes and prepare them for their next take-off, among them the world’s largest passenger aircraft, the Airbus A380. The airport is about to open a brand new two billion pound terminal and welcomes a very special royal guest. Duty manager Andy is called on to defuse a major international protest, and a team of workers battle the elements as they try to resurface one of the runways overnight before the first flight of the morning arrives.

TFI Friday was at the heart of 90s Britpop, and featured some leading British and international bands, as guests queued up to appear during its run. Broadcasting from a new central London location, TFI promises to be an unmissable live television event. Also taking part will be Blur and Shaun Ryder, Amanda Seyfried and Kirstie Allsopp. Other guests include Liam Gallagher and The Who frontman Roger Daltrey, Ian Broudie and Zak Starkey who form a supergroup to mark the anniversary.

Documentary series that goes behind the safety cordon to explore the explosive world of demolition, charting the dramatic end to some of Britain’s biggest and most iconic buildings. In the last episode in the series, Hull’s tallest building has to come crashing to the ground, but it’s surrounded by houses on all sides. Come blowdown day, the entire estate has to be evacuated as the team find out whether their explosive calculations are correct. One of the few women working in demolition, Debbie Burns, takes on a massive £750 million renovation project at Britain’s busiest interchange station, Birmingham New Street, which brings commuters and demolition on a crash course. And Howard Stott, a veteran demolition man who’s been working in the industry since the days of Fred Dibnah, meets a deadly foe while slicing a shopping centre in two.

Actor and comedian Michael Smiley takes a bike tour of Northern Ireland, meeting other cycling enthusiasts en route and recalling stories from his past. In this edition, he is near Carnlough with former pro-cyclist Stephen Gallagher who helped design the Giro D’Italia route. He travels on to Crossmaglen for a rare interview with one of his favourite authors, Dervla Murphy, who chats about her astonishing adventures on a bicycle. He then visits Glaslough to meet 97-year-old Sir Jack Lesley, who shares Smiley’s love of dance music and clubbing.

Britain’s Busiest Airport – Heathrow (itv/HD | 9:00pm to 10:00pm | Thursday 4th June 2015)

Documentary series going behind the scenes at Britain’s busiest and biggest international airport – London Heathrow. This episode focuses on Arrivals, as staff race against the clock to process thousands of passengers arriving from 84 different countries. Airside safety officer Glenn and his colleagues work closely with air traffic control to ensure that Heathrow’s two runways are kept open and clear of debris. The Animal Reception Centre welcomes a variety of weird and wonderful creatures ranging from pet ferrets to a wild tiger. Meanwhile, inside the terminals, staff deal with some challenging passengers, including a man temporarily forced to live in the airport after being deported from Thailand and a family whose young relatives have gone missing.
