The Great Model Railway Challenge (Channel 5/HD | 6:25pm to 7:30pm | Saturday 19th October 2019)

The three teams in the second semi-final are challenged to build a track based on a blockbuster movie in just three days. The Railmen of Kent recreate the wizarding world of Harry Potter, complete with broomsticks, giant spiders and enchanted cars. Wild card entry Muddle and Go Nowhere base their track on James Bond, while Who’s Counting Rivets pay homage to Jurassic Park with a dinosaur-infested creation..

Saving Lives at Sea (BBC 2/HD | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Tuesday 22nd October 2019)

RNLI volunteers at Calshot on the south coast race to the rescue of a 180-metre-long cargo ship which has run aground on a sandbank, and is now listing at a dangerous angle. At the most northerly lifeboat station on the British mainland, the crew gets called out to investigate a personal locator beacon which has been set off on a remote stretch of rocky coastline, and in Kinsale, volunteers come to the aid of a horse.

Love in the Countryside (BBC 2/HD | 9:00pm to 10:00pm | Tuesday 22nd October 2019)

Sara Cox helps Welsh shepherd Ioan get a leg up the love ladder, but when he invites three ladies back home, his demanding work threatens to obstruct his shot at romance. Meanwhile, vet George and equine dentist Victoria from https://drlarryfranks.com/ from https://drlarryfranks.com/ are both in the grips of a dating conundrum, sheepdog trainer Katy leaves the remote Cumbrian fells to see if romance will blossom with ex-motorbike champ David, and Sara finds out if any of the rural romantics believe they have found everlasting love in the countryside.

At the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highlands Railway, manager Stephen Greig is trying to ensure that all goes to plan ahead of the opening of the new station at Caernarfon.

The World’s Most Scenic Railway Journeys (Channel 5/HD | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Friday 25th October 2019)

The stories of six epic train journeys, seen through the characters who travel, work and live near them. The first programme rides through Canada’s iconic Rocky Mountaineer train in a jaw-dropping loop from Vancouver to the heart of the Rockies, through some of North America’s most staggering natural beauty, and on to Banff in Alberta. The journey also ventures through the spiral tunnels and shows how to track bears with the National Park rangers. Narrated by Bill Nighy.

Caravanning with Shane Richie (Channel 5/HD | 9:00pm | 10:00pm | Friday 25th October 2019)

The former Pontins bluecoat heads to north devon to stay in a static caravan on a park owned by of one of the biggest holiday park chains in the UK. The park boasts its own entertainment centre, swimming pool, nature reserve and even its own private beach. He is later joined by one of his oldest friends who, just like him, is a former holiday park entertainer. Peter joins Shane on a visit to a theme park with a difference, and the duo attend a D-Day re-enactment at a local beach, complete with vintage jeeps and aircraft.

A volunteer in Scotland has to rescue his own father, whose fishing boat is drifting powerless towards a rocky shoreline. In Bristol, a father and son are among the crew that comes to the aid of two five-year-old girls who have drifted into the Bristol channel on an inflatable, while in Ilfracombe, lifeboat volunteers race against time to save a mother and her daughter stranded at the base of huge sea cliffs.

Documentary exploring the history of the river, and how it has played a pivotal role in London’s development as a major centre for international trade. The first episode focuses on the capital’s docklands, which at their peak, employed more than 30,000 workers. A boat captain whose family have hauled cargo along the river for six generations recalls his grandfather’s unique talents. Plus, a look at the construction of bridges, sewers, and the flood barrier.

A lifeboat crew in Dorset faces the challenge of getting urgent medical aid to a rock climber, who has fallen more than 40 feet and landed on an inaccessible rocky ledge. In Cornwall, a paraglider misjudges his launch and ends up crashing into the sea, while the Redcar crew search for a man who has drifted over a mile offshore in a small toy dinghy.

Sink or Swim (Channel 4/HD | 9:15pm to 10:15pm | Tuesday 17th September 2019)

The day of the cross-channel swim is approaching, and after 12 weeks of gruelling training, the experts decide which of the celebrities is up to the challenge of undertaking a 22-mile relay to France. The team must work together and brave harsh weather and the limits of their own endurance to complete the crossing.

Three teams of modellers are given three days to create masterpieces based on the theme of best-selling book. The Seven Pillars of Wisdom by TE Lawrence (aka Lawrence of Arabia) is the inspiration for the Scarborough Flyers, sci-fi fans the Rail Riders choose HG Wells’ classic War of the Worlds as their muse, while Team Phoenix’s layout is inspired by various tomes by the queen of crime, Agatha Christie. As usual presenters James Richardson and Tim Shaw are joined by expert judges Kathy Millat and Steve Flint.

Celebrity 5 Go Motorhoming Unpacked (Channel 5/HD | 10:15pm to 11:15pm | Friday 20th September 2019)

Leaving Loch Lomond and the midges behind, Lesley Joseph, Don Warrington, Melvyn Hayes, Nick Heyward and Cleo Rocos travel over the sea to Skye via the Glenfinnan Viaduct, a structure made famous by the Harry Potter films. Once on the isle, they are told a tall tale by a kilted Scotsman, almost get blown off the Quiraing and walk in the footsteps of dinosaurs. The excitement isn’t over, as they get to sample scallops straight from the sea. Finally the five all get down to a traditional Scottish ceilidh, which they discover is a lot easier to do than to spell.

In England, the Blyth crew searches for an 80-year-old man who has gone missing after leaving home to look for lobsters on the coast.

Sink or Swim (Channel 4/HD | 9:15pm to 10:15pm | Tuesday 10th September 2019)

The remaining celebrities must face their fears if they are to qualify for the cross-channel swim. They tackle their first night swim in Loch Lomond, enduring darkness and gruelling temperatures. Emotions are running high as the team is pushed to the limit, and each swimmer must decide if they are ready to face the challenge ahead.

Zak and Alex face a four-day mission to deliver a pair of classic steam locomotives for an Autumn Steam Gala at the Mid Hants Railway in Hampshire.

Talented teams are tasked to build awe-inspiring miniature wonderlands against the clock, loaded with stunning scenery and spectacular animations, all to a different weekly theme and designed to impress expert judges Steve Flint and Kathy Millatt. Here, the first of eight gruelling, themed rounds sees `The Restless Earth” brought to life. Three teams of enthusiasts set about manufacturing a deluge of volcanoes, earthquakes and other small-scale natural disasters. Presented by James Richardson and Tim Shaw.

Celebrity 5 Go Motorhoming Unpacked (Channel 5/HD | 10:00pm to 11:05pm | Friday 13th September 2019)

Lesley Joseph reminisces about her childhood bucket-and-spade holidays on the Gower Peninsula, while Cleo Rocos, Melvyn Hayes and Don Warrington climb into the clouds in Snowdonia. The gang then start the Scottish leg of their trip in Edinburgh, where Melvyn’s dad was born, before heading north through the Trossachs. The boys are side-tracked by the intriguingly named Loch Drunkie, while the girls travel by steamboat down Lock Katrine.

A dog falls into the river Thames, creating an emergency for the Chiswick crew when the owner dives in to save it – and soon needs rescuing herself.

The celebrities face their first open water experience. RNLI volunteers in Pembrokeshire, including brothers Hal, Will and Ben, race to the scene when a plane makes an emergency crash landing on one of Wales’ busiest beaches. In Jersey, the St Catherine crew are pushed to the brink when they search for a man who has gone missing at sea in the middle of a fierce winter storm. On the Wirral, the crew of Hoylake launch their specialist rescue hovercraft and race the incoming tide to try and save a horse, which has become stuck fast in the mud and at risk from drowning.

A team of celebrities train for a cross-channel relay swim in support of Stand Up to Cancer, under the coaching of Olympic swimmer Keri-Anne Payne and adventurer Ross Edgley. Documentary following the exploits of a family-run crew of heavy-haulage specialists as they transport the heaviest, longest and most precious locomotives around the world. Terry and Jason have been called in to move legendary steam locomotive Britannia. The 68-year-old vehicle has undergone a major restoration in Crewe and is scheduled to start running at the Severn Valley Railway.

A look at top-end trains, such as South Africa’s famous Blue Train. A five-star hotel on wheels, guests pay upwards of £2,600 per ticket for the 40-hour journey from Pretoria to Cape Town, enjoying 24-hour butler service, bespoke linen and a soak in their own private bath. Another South African luxury train, Rovos Rail, offers a game drive. In Russia, the Golden Eagle offer a Trans-Siberian train journey, which crosses nine time zones on its two-week journey. The Presidential Train offers a luxury daytrip through the Portuguese countryside, where guests are served a meal created by a Michelin-starred chef.

At Worsley, Tim and Pru discover how in 1761, the building of the Bridgewater Canal, more than halved the price of coal in Manchester and launched a transport revolution. In Manchester, Tim and Pru discover a lesser known aspect of canal history when visiting Canal Street, which lies at the heart of the city’s LGBT+ community.

Swindon control discovers an intoxicated man running around the tracks, forcing them to shut the line. Engineers at Cowley Bridge near Exeter insert 24 huge culverts to ease flooding there. In Paddington, a drink-addled dentist is convinced he has left his bag on a train.

Before heading for the tough Lakeland summit of Scafell Pike, Paul meets the folk who run one of the country’s most scenic railways, he has a close encounter with a vulture, and gets to grips with the locals in a spot of Cumberland wrestling.

Simon Reeve embarks on the third leg of his epic four-part journey around the Mediterranean. He begins in Libya – a country torn apart by revolution, insurgents from the so-called Islamic State and western air strikes. Travelling west along North Africa’s Mediterranean coast, Simon journeys through Tunisia where he meets a man who is keeping Berber traditions alive by harnessing camel power to make olive oil and excavating rock by hand to build new Berber homes. From Tunisia, Simon boards the overnight ferry to Sicily. Here he meets three inspiring sisters who – despite constant intimidation – are making a defiant stand against the mafia.

Documentary series about one of the UK’s busiest transport hubs and the western rail network it serves. Huge delays occur after a man is hit by a train at Southall, and more chaos occurs when the power out on track is accidentally switched off. Meanwhile, hundreds of train enthusiasts descend on Paddington to get a glimpse of the world-famous Flying Scotsman.

Documentary following the men and women of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI). As storm Ophelia hits the British Isles, on the south east coast of Ireland the Rosslare crew try to rescue a small yacht with three people on board. In Devon, the crew at Appledore race an incoming tide to try and reach a man stuck fast in quicksand, while on the north coast of Cornwall, the crew of St Agnes must battle through huge breaking waves to reach two young boys being swept out to sea in a deadly rip current.

Without Limits: Australia (BBC 1/HD | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Wednesday 24th October 2018)

Two-part observational documentary following a team of injured British and Australian veterans as they embark on an extraordinary near 1000-mile expedition across Western Australia’s remote Kimberley region. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcome the veterans at the Invictus Games in Sydney after their dramatic expedition across Western Australia.

Grand Designs (Channel 4/HD | 9:00pm to 10:00pm | Wednesday 24th October 2018)

Professional deep-sea diver Adrian Corrigall is obsessed with concrete. He fell in love with this cold uncompromising material in the skateparks of Scotland. Now he’s convinced his wife Megan to agree to build their new family home in rural East Sussex almost entirely out of the stuff – both inside and out. No cladding, no carpets, no plaster or wallpaper – this will be as pure a concrete building as possible. Construction involves cutting-edge technologies conceived in Switzerland and never used to build a house before. The hope is these new mix recipes will overcome the historic negatives of concrete and keep costs down. However, the perils of being a pioneer soon become evident. With both schedule and budget under strain, Adrian is forced to resume work as a diver, servicing North Sea oil installations and taking him away for a month at a time. With Megan now left juggling the build, all the while looking after three young children, the concrete dream seems a long way off.

Four-part series about the Lake District, the National Park that is now a World Heritage Site. In this episode, Paul Rose heads to Coniston, where he enters a retro-cycling event on a penny farthing before joining the mountain bikers of Grizedale Forest. He relives the final moments of Donald Campbell in his attempt to break the world water-speed record on Coniston Water, and ends his trek by climbing Dow Crag, before ascending to one of the area’s best-known hills, The Old Man of Coniston.

Walking Britain’s Lost Railways (Channel 5/HD | 9:00pm to 10:00pm | Friday 26th October 2018)

Rob Bell explores the lost landscapes and infrastructure of some of Britain’s former railway lines. Rob unearths the lost line from Ruabon to Barmouth, taking a memorable trip across the ‘Stream in the Sky’ on the breath-taking Pontcysyllte Aquaduct.

Series in which Paul Murton takes a tour of Scotland’s lochs. In this edition, Paul heads to one of Britain’s remotest railway stations, which was built to service several grand sporting lodges in the days when the rich and fashionable came to shoot game and fish the lochs of the Flow Country. Heading into the wilderness, he discovers a legacy of habitation before the Highland clearances and learns how early industrial plans to exploit the vast reserves of peat would have destroyed an ecosystem which is now valued throughout the world for its wild beauty. Paul then pans for gold in an icy river before heading for a miracle cure at the Lourdes of the north – the tiny, deserted Loch ma Naire. When the pagers go off one summer evening, Vinny finds himself heading out into the darkness to try and rescue two teenage boys who have chased a wayward football into the sea and get caught in a treacherous current.

Right from the start, Born and Elinor are up against it, with access issues to their plot and the need to be super strict concerning suitable materials. It’s an immense burden and with the children still suffering weekly allergy attacks, a race against time to get moved in. But will their innovative new house deliver the benefits Elinor and Born are hoping for?
