Our Precious Isles. Series 1, episode 1. David Attenborough explores British woodland, grassland, freshwater and ocean habitats, revealing the surprising and dramatic wildlife that exist right on the doorstep, the existence of which is critical for the survival of species right across the globe. The first episode examines the benefits of Britain’s natural geology and examines ways in which depleted islands can be restored for future generations.

Paul Whitehouse: Our Troubled Rivers (BBC 2/HD | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Sunday 12th March 2023)

Part two of two. Paul visits the River Wye and discovers how an explosion of algae caused by fertiliser run-off from farming is part of a cocktail overwhelming the habitats along the waterway. He travels to Hampshire where he hears about the damage being caused to rare and precious chalk streams, before discovering how regular sewage discharges on the coast are causing problems for Whitstable’s famous oyster industry. Ending his journey in London, Paul finds a beacon of hope in the form of the £4.4billion Thames Tideway super sewer.

Spitfire. Series 2, episode 9. For the first time in 50 years, the Airfix team attempt a 1:24 scale kit of a Spitfire. Will designer Chris be able to capture the iconic warbird in sufficient detail?

Channel Tunnel. Series 4, episode 3. Tim goes deep beneath the waves to explore the Channel Tunnel, stopping off at Ashford International to take in this underappreciated piece of 90s railway architecture.

A concert at The Royal Festival Hall sets the stage for the final of the competition, as the remaining pianists rehearse and prepare before they walk out onto one of the world’s great music stages in front of a packed house. The Struggle to Survive. Series 1, episode 4. Stephen Fry heads 66 million years into the past to the fateful last days of the dinosaurs to see how the plant-eaters fought back against deadly predators, and witnesses how a light in the sky became an extraordinary extra-terrestrial threat that signalled the end of the dinosaur’s reign on earth.

Hornby: A Model World (Yesterday | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Monday 6th February 2023)

Black 5. Series 2, episode 8. Designer Phil takes on his toughest challenge yet – an entire reinvention of the Black Fives, encompassing all 842 variations.

George Michael: Outed (Channel 4/HD | 9:00pm to 10:00pm | Monday 6th March 2023) ** NEW SERIES **

Part one of two. How the singer’s outing was a landmark moment in gay politics, with a potential career-ending scandal being averted by seizing control of the media narrative. The first episode looks back at the singer’s early career, and unearths the reasons he felt compelled to remain in the closet in the first place. Featuring contributions from former manager Simon Napier-Bell and Rev Richard Coles, who recalls his own experiences of being a gay man and a pop star in the 1980s.

Manchester. Series 4, episode 2. Tim Dunn discovers how railway architecture has been repurposed. He starts with Manchester’s Castlefield area, where viaducts still dominate the cityscape.

George Michael: Outed (Channel 4/HD | 9:00pm to 10:00pm | Tuesday 7th March 2023)

Part two of two. How George Michael announced his sexuality to the world in 1998 and the events that led to it including losing his partner to an Aids-related illness, being arrested for committing a lewd act in a public toilet and threats from the News of the World to publish pictures of him cruising in a park. Will Young shares how the events gave hope to young gay men at the time.

The final stop on the search for Britain’s best amateur pianists is Birmingham New Street Station. Featuring a toe-tapping Jerry Lee Lewis hit and a unique Harry Styles cover. There is not a dry eye in the station when a Welsh retiree goes on a trip down memory lane. As per usual, the unsuspecting performers are being watched by Lang Lang and Mika who are looking for a pianist to play at the Royal Festival Hall.

Beyond Paradise (BBC 1/HD | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Friday 10th March 2023) ** PICK OF THE WEEK **

The peaceful community of Shipton Abbott is rocked when beloved painting the Solo Mare disappears in a seemingly impossible heist while plans are in motion for its appearance at an exhibition. The theft is even more perplexing given the artwork was under the guard of PC Kelby Hartford at the time. Kelby feels responsible and Humphrey pulls out all the stops to recover the priceless piece. Drama, starring Kris Marshall and Sally Bretton.

Call the Midwife (BBC 1/HD | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Sunday 26th February 2023)

The countdown to Trixie and Matthew’s wedding officially begins, with Sister Veronica taking charge of organising the wedding gifts, while the bride’s brother Geoffrey arriving and setting out to arrange the perfect hen party. However, the nuptials cause stress levels to escalate as a catalogue of disasters threaten to spoil the day. Meanwhile, a car crash leaves Dr Turner facing the biggest test of his career when he left to save a precious life, Nancy considers her and Colette’s future and Sister Julienne hatches a plan to save Nonnatus House once and for all.

Dinosaur with Stephen Fry (Channel 5/HD | 7:00pm to 8:00pm | Sunday 26th February 2023)

Killer Dinosaurs. Series 1, episode 3. The actor finds himself transported back to a huge forest 68 million years ago in the late Cretaceous period, home to deadly predator Tyrannosaurus rex. With the help of expert Dr David Hone, Stephen observes a T-rex on the rampage, crunching up huge corpses and stalking a herd of triceratops, and they also encounter a giant flying reptile known as quetzalcoatlus. which stood taller than a giraffe and had the wingspan of a light aircraft.

Hornby: A Model World (Yesterday | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Monday 27th February 2023)

A4 Mallard. Series 2, episode 7. There’s a huge challenge for designer Phil to get the iconic curvature correct on Hornby’s latest range of A4 locos.

Forth Bridge. Series 4, episode 1. Tim heads north of the border to scale a Scottish railway icon – the Forth Bridge, without doubt one of the engineering wonders of the world.

The hunt for outstanding amateur pianists continues in Glasgow Central Station with impromptu performances from a local jazz legend, an 86 year-old father of 11, a YouTube star and a boogie woogie biker who believes music is in her DNA. Watching them all in secret are Lang Lang and Mika, who are looking for a performer to play at The Royal Festival Hall.

Humphrey and Martha throw themselves into work in an attempt to distract themselves from recent events. For Humphrey, this means investigating one of the strangest cases he’s ever encountered – an entire family has vanished, leaving their TV and lights on and dinner half-eaten. Martha prepares for the launch of her café, but is thrown when a face from the past shows up.

Dinosaur with Stephen Fry (Channel 5/HD | 7:00pm to 8:00pm | Sunday 19th February 2023)

When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth. Series 1, episode 2. The actor examines the early Cretaceous period, an era that saw an explosion in dinosaur diversity 125 million years ago. In a vast and sandy virtual river valley, he sets off in search of the fearsome velociraptor, only to find that this dreaded dinosaur made famous in the Jurassic Park films was in reality no bigger than a turkey. Stephen is joined by expert Dr Dean Lomax to observe the remarkable behaviour of this highly intelligent predator, before heading to the US to meet the dinosaur hunter who first discovered the Utahraptor.

9F Evening Star. Series 2, episode 6. The Hornby team attempt to replicate the legendary 9F steam locomotive, using new design technology.

The search for the most talented amateur pianist continues at Leeds train station. The unsuspecting performers include a Chopin lover who has built a street piano on wheels, a boy who plays Ibiza classics for his dad and a unique girl who stops the station in its tracks.

Beyond Paradise (BBC 1/HD | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Friday 24th February 2023) ** NEW SERIES **

DI Humphrey Goodman and fiancée Martha Lloyd have left Saint Marie behind and having now also vacated London are temporarily living with Martha’s mother. As Martha sets out to pursue her dream of running her own restaurant, Humphrey joins the Devon police force and quickly makes an impression on its somewhat eclectic team. As Humphrey throws himself into solving a perplexing case of attempted murder, he and Martha navigate life’s ups and downs as faces from the past, the decisions they make and challenges of setting up a new life put their relationship to the test.

Death in Paradise (BBC 1/HD | 9:00pm to 10:00pm | Friday 24th February 2023) ** PICK OF THE WEEK **

Series 7, episode 8. The team investigates the murder of a renowned calypso singer’s husband. Neville believes it is poison since the paramedics found blue traces on the man’s fingers, but there are several lines of inquiry to follow. Away from the case, Neville struggles with Sophie’s betrayal and informs the Commissioner that he intends to leave Saint Marie in order to extract himself from various reminders.

Michael McIntyre’s Big Show (BBC 1/HD | 7:00pm to 8:00pm | Saturday 11th February 2023)

Michael presents another hour of entertainment, featuring music from Olly Murs, singing Dancing on Cars, and Stacey Dooley handing over her mobile in Send to All. There’s a rude awakening for Alexander Armstrong when he plays the Midnight Gameshow and a pair of Unexpected Stars of the Show are invited to perform a duet.

Dinosaur with Stephen Fry (Channel 5/HD | 7:00pm to 8:00pm | Sunday 12th February 2023) ** NEW SERIES **

Dawn of the Dinosaurs. Series 1, episode 1. The actor and writer is magically transported back in time to chart the 180-million-year story of the prehistoric creatures, beginning by going back 155 million years to the Jurassic period. He explores the conifer forests and fern prairies that were their home, encountering a monstrous plant-eating diplodocus and deadly predator the allosaurus. Expert Susie Maidment arrives to decode these dinosaurs’ remarkable behaviour, including the diplodocus’s acrobatic ability to rear up on its hind legs and the allosaurus’s terrifying attack strategy.

Call the Midwife (BBC 1/HD | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Sunday 12th February 2023)

Everyone is looking forward to Trixie and Matthew’s wedding and a bonny baby competition brings the community together. It’s not all good news, however, as the team learn about a pregnant woman and her family living in a cramped caravan, while a worrying disease outbreak directly impacts the residents of Nonnatus House.

Airfix Buccaneer. Series 2, episode 5. Paramjit in the Airfix team works on a Buccaneer fighter jet in 1:48 scale, complete with folding wings, extra armaments and exposed engine bay.

Waterloo Road (BBC 1/HD | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Tuesday 14th February 2023)

Everyone is excited for the end of term show and Danny has some good news to celebrate but the joy is short-lived when the past catches up with him, leading him to make a choice that could change the course of his life for ever. Drama, starring Angela Griffin, with Kym Marsh.

Claudia Winkleman searches for passionate pianists at public pianos in train stations across the UK. Unbeknownst to the performers they are being watched by Lang Lang and Mika who are looking for one amateur musician to perform at London’s Royal Festival Hall. The search begins in King’s Cross St Pancras.

Death in Paradise (BBC 1/HD | 9:00pm to 10:00pm | Friday 17th February 2023) ** PICK OF THE WEEK **

Series 3, episode 7. Following Neville’s arrest on suspicion of killing David Cartwright, DI Karen Flitcroft from the Department of Policing Standards arrives to investigate. CCTV footage shows an agitated Neville visiting the victim shortly before he was found dead, which as far as Flitcroft is concerned proves his guilt – so she advises the team members that if they are convinced of their inspector’s innocence, they must prove it quickly.
