Taken live while out cycling

This is first for my website a update in the middle of a cycle. Should even show the location all going well.

Will post even more photos from the cycle when I get back home :).

Little Bytham – Thorney – Whittlesey cycle

Had great fun cycling from Little Bytham, to Thorney, Whittlesey, Peterborough  then back home to Little Bytham. Around 30 miles of this route covered roads I had never cycled on before. I had driven on most of them before, but that’s not the same. Also had my first real look around Whittlesey. Which is where most of the dog track staff come from. I also found 11 more geocaches bring my total to 103. I could have found many, many more during the cycle. But I run of out day light. Did not get home till gone 10:30pm the way it was.

So now on with some of the statistics from the cycle.

  • Distance: 62.04 miles.
  • Time: 4:38:30 (h:m:s).
  • Avg Speed: 13.4 mph.
  • Max Speed: 24.8 mph.
  • Elevation Gain: 243 meters.
  • Elevation Loss: 242 meters
  • Min Elevation: -7 meters.
  • Max Elevation: 65 meters.

Here is a nice map of the full cycle.

After the cycle I went for a quick drink with Alex, Chris and Mark at the Willoughby Arms. When I say a drink, I mean a Pepsi. So over all it was a great day. Till my PC monitor died on me. But that’s story for another day.

Done 19,999.5 miles on the bike (since April 2003)

I can’t belive that I have done 19,999.5 miles on the bike, since April 2003. If I had knowing I was only half a mile away from the big 20,000 miles. I would have stayed out on the bike for just a bit longer.  The way I am going I will have beating last years record of 4,001.3 miles by the end of the month. Since I only have to do 561.6 miles before the month is out. Then I have till the end of the year to try to do 1,000 to get up to 5,000 which is my goal by the end of the year.

Oh I am sure you will have worked it out by now, I was doing more geocaching while out in the bike. I found 6, so bringing my total finds up to 88. Hoping to get that to 100 before the week is out. So just hope that the weather stays nice. Glad that I did not lose anything while out, yesterday I went and lost a set of keys, never lost a set of keys in my life, till now.

I did have some bad luck wile out on the bike, I had not even done 5 miles. When I got a flat tyre but at the least it was the front for once, so did not take to long to fix.

Here are some photos from the cycle:-

Oh and before I go. Did you know this website is in the top 10 cycle blog rankings in the UK? Well it is, and if you don’t believe me check out kimbofo.typepad.com/londoncyclingdiary/2011/08/sneek-peek-of-augusts-cycle-blog-rankings.html. So that is one of the reasons I have been posting so much cycling stuff.

Can’t believe the End2End cycle was two years ago

Celebrating at Land’s End

I have just finished watching “Stand By Me” on blu-ray. I had forgotten just how good that film is. I would give it 10/10. I think it would make it into my top ten, if not top five films you have to watch in your life.  Think I will be singing the theme song to myself for the rest of the day. So I feel sorry for people that I work with tonight.

So moving on from “Stand By Me” it got be thinking about the End to End cycle that I did in August 2009. I can’t believe it was just 2 years ago. Where has the time gone? This time two years ago, I would have been in the car on the way up to Killearn, then off to the starting point in John O’Groats the next day. I still can’t believe I did the whole cycle. With all the things that happened at the same time, like getting dumped, during it. The more I think about the cycle, the more and more I want to do it again. I was hoping to do it again this year. But the people I was hoping to go with all pulled out. You may all by thinking, you have done it once. So why do you want to do it again? That’s easy, it was so much fun. I also want to show myself I can do it again. Also next time, I think I would enjoy it more, since I know I can do it.

So I am going to make sure I do it next year. Even if I have to do the whole thing myself, which I would not mind, since I did most of it by myself last time. Well other then the first five days, when I was still with Mike. Then later on when I meet up with some other lads, also doing the cycle. So big hello to Ben, Edward and Henry.

Left to right: Ben, Edward, myself and Henry

Ben, Edward and Henry helped more than they will ever know. They reminded me why I was doing the cycle again in the first place. It was also nice to have people to chat to again, cycling for 16 days and only having yourself to chat to most of the time, did get a bit boring after a while.

Also doing the end was a bit part of the life for a good number of years, well before doing the cycle. Since I had been planning it on and off for years. So when I got Land’s End I was over the moon. Think it was one a day, I will remember for the rest of myself. At the same time, very sad. Since it was a end of chapter. I did had not needed the money, I think I would have turned around and cycled all the way back to the start in John O’Groats.

Sorry I hope I have not bored you all to much. In what may be one of the longest blog posts I have ever done. To read about the End to End cycle that I did in 2009 check out www.endtoend-cycle.com.  I will of course also be using that website for next years CYCLE!

Bye for now! xx

So pleased with the amount of cycling I did last month. I did a record number of miles on the bike in once month, well that’s if you don’t count the End to End cycle month, back in August 2009.  So can’t believe it’s two years ago this month that I did it. I was really hoping to do it again this year, but people I was hoping to go with plugged out
