Gabby Logan, Clare Balding and Gary Lineker present BBC Sports Personality of the Year live from Birmingham, celebrating a sensational year of sport. In front of a 12,000-strong crowd, including 1,000 sporting greats, the event, now in its 65th year, reviews 2018’s magical moments and rewards some of its standout achievers. And, for the first time, the contenders for the main BBC Sports Personality of the Year award are revealed at the start of the show, with the winner decided by a public vote later in the programme. The night is full of inspiration, emotion, surprises, musical performances, powerful films, interviews and celebration. The winners for the Team, Coach, Unsung Hero, Helen Rollason and Lifetime Achievement awards are revealed alongside the recipient of a new award for best sporting moment.

The Adventure Show (BBC 2 Scotland & BBC iPlayer only | 7:00pm to 8:00pm | Monday 17th December 2018)

The Adventure Show travels to the Outer Hebrides for a two-day race that takes competitors on a spectacular journey across the wild landscape of this remote island chain. With 200 kilometres of running, biking and kayaking, The Heb is a challenge for both adventure enthusiasts and hardened endurance athletes fighting for the top spots. This month’s programme also joins two students from Breadalbane Academy in Highland Perthshire as they cast aside their school books to experience working in the great outdoors. Plus, an exceptional young ice climber preparing for the winter competition season.

Warship: Life at Sea (Channel 5/HD | 9:00pm to 10:00pm | Monday 17th December 2018)

Documentary series filmed aboard the destroyer HMS Duncan. The crew stand-off with a Russian warship over Syria, and young sailor Danny tries for his first promotion, but chef Liam gets in trouble for drinking and might lose shore leave privileges.
